Mrs Margaret,
I just wanted to let you know that your lessons were not in vain this summer. Brenan has spent his entire summer on the steps of the pool----OR in his life jacket. No matter how I tried---he would not go under, put his entire face in, or agree to be splashed.Well, two days ago we had a logical conversation (who would have guessed) and he decided to put his face in the water. Then after talking about how going under is the same, he tried that. Then a discussion of jumping in the water just means your head goes under like it does when you put it under over by the steps, led to jumping in with no life jacket and going completely under. First of all, I was SHOCKED that he agreed to put his face in.....much less jumping in (willingly). As soon as he went under the water he immediately began swimming the strokes YOU had shown him. I was so surprised and so proud of the work you had done in teaching him.
Thank you SO MUCH for your patience and for taking the time to work with a kid whose own mother thought would never get off the steps. You have made a difference in the life of OUR child. He now feels confident about swimming and that is COMPLETELY YOUR doing!!!!
